Although there are many factors that determine body weight, gingerol (the main bioactive compound in ginger) may help stimulate weight loss by lowering BMI (body mass index), speeding up digestion, and stabilizing blood sugar––all essential aspects to improving body composition (1)(2)(3). In one study, 80 obese women experienced a decrease in BMI after consuming ginger daily for 12 weeks (1). While these results are promising, more research is needed to determine the effect of ginger on body weight.
