What is water lentil and why is it considered a sustainable source of protein?

Water lentils, also known as lemna or duckweed, are the smallest flowering plant in the world and are naturally grown on still water, typically in tropical climates. Though small, the benefits of consuming this aquatic plant are anything but, as this superfood is both highly nutritious (a complete source of protein) and sustainable.

What makes our water lentils a sustainable source of protein?

1. Our water lentils are grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides, transforming marginal and otherwise non-arable land into aquafarms, without competing for space with other crops.

2. 98% of the water used is recycled during processing, resulting in a very low consumption of water per kilo of water lentil production compared to that of animal proteins.

3. 100% of the harvested water lentils are used in the final product, meaning very little food waste (an issue that contributes to ~ 8% of global emissions).

4. Water lentils double their weight every 24 hours and can be harvested daily.
