Tenebrio molitor (commonly known as mealworm) is the larval form of the mealworm beetle (1). Due to its high nutrient density and ability to thrive off a varied food byproduct diet and eliminate food waste, mealworms are now farmed in Canada as a safe and sustainable protein source (1).
