According to Health Canada, there are no known interactions between hydrolyzed marine collagen and thyroid medication, and supplementing your diet with hydrolyzed marine collagen could actually help to support proper thyroid function (1). The amino acid glycine, which is abundant in marine collagen, can help to promote thyroid health by reducing the stress-producing hormone cortisol. This is especially important for individuals who have hypothyroidism, as an increase in cortisol can cause a decrease in thyroid function by preventing the liver from effectively converting T4 into T3 (2).
The amino acids glutamine, cystine, and glycine (all found in marine collagen) are also crucial to proper immune function and gut health: two factors that can influence thyroid health (3)(4).
Additionally, many Landish customers and family members consume our Pure Canadian Marine Collagen while on thyroid medication with no issues.
That said, we recommend that you speak to your primary healthcare provider if you have concerns about consuming marine collagen while taking thyroid medication.
Please note that this article refers to our Pure Canadian Marine Collagen only. Our Marine Collagen Beauty Blend and Marine Collagen Functional Coffee Creamer contain added ingredients other than hydrolyzed marine collagen.
